inspiration: spider-woman v1 #01
Despite the fact that Jessica has a history of not exactly being the most ‘honorable’ of people, she does have morals and she does suffer from the guilt accompanied by her actions. In this issue, she goes into a convenience store to steal and realizes that it’s not right for her to become a criminal just to survive. She wouldn’t stoop to that, “not even to live.”
On the following pages, they show her barely not getting caught by the security guard and her inner monologue goes on to talk about how she feels that she should be locked away so she can’t hurt anyone because despite being away from HYDRA, she still has the urge to do bad things. And it scares her. It scares her that without anyone else’s manipulation, she still wants to do bad things.
So even now, after she has escaped the bad influences, even after she’s proven to herself that she isn’t a bad person, Jessica is still worried that she could go back to that person. She’s still very, very conscious of her actions and the influence those actions have on other people. Even the slightest crimes, like stealing a can of food to live off of, is too bad for her to contemplate doing.
